Specialised orthodontics — one of the clinic’s main focus areas
Orthodontics corrects the position of teeth and jaws. At DentalBliss it’s one of our main practice areas: we treat children (from age 7-8), adolescents and adults with a personalised plan for each case. We use intraoral scanners for digital impressions (no paste, faster and more precise), and we show you a simulation of the final result before starting.
When orthodontics is indicated
- Crooked, crowded teeth or teeth with gaps between them
- Incorrect bite (open, crossbite, edge-to-edge, deep)
- Jaw asymmetries
- Temporomandibular joint dysfunctions caused by occlusion
- Smile aesthetics — alignment for a harmonious look
- Pre-prosthetic or pre-implant preparation
Types of appliances
🔩 Fixed metal braces
The classic solution, effective for any case complexity and most affordable financially. Metal brackets fixed on each tooth, connected with an orthodontic wire.
- Advantages: effective for complex cases, durable, best price/duration ratio
- Typical duration: 12-24 months
- Recommended for: children, adolescents, adults without aesthetic constraints
💎 Fixed aesthetic braces (sapphire/ceramic)
Brackets made of sapphire or ceramic, semi-transparent, much more discreet than metal ones. Same functionality as the classic version, but much less visible.
- Advantages: discreet, ideal for working professionals
- Typical duration: 14-24 months
- Recommended for: adults and adolescents who want a clean look during treatment
👻 Invisible aligners — Invisalign and similar systems
A set of personalised transparent aligners, changed every 1-2 weeks. Nearly invisible, removable for meals, brushing, and important events. Planning is done digitally, and each stage moves teeth by fractions of a millimetre.
- Advantages: invisible, removable, oral hygiene unaffected, no “broken wire” emergencies
- Typical duration: 6-18 months for mild/moderate cases
- Recommended for: adults and adolescents with wear discipline (22 hours/day)
🦷 Lingual braces
Brackets fixed on the inner (lingual) side of teeth — invisible from outside. A more demanding technique, recommended for specific cases and patients who want maximum discretion.
Treatment stages
- Orthodontic consultation — clinical exam, panoramic X-ray, possibly cephalometric
- Digital impression + plan — with intraoral scanner; you get the simulation of the result
- Mouth preparation — scaling, possibly conservative treatments before starting
- Appliance application — 60-90 minutes for fixed braces, or aligner set delivery
- Periodic check-ups — every 4-8 weeks for adjustments
- Appliance removal — at the end of the active phase
- Retention — mandatory step to maintain the result (see below)
Retention — the step we never skip
After removing the appliance, teeth tend to drift back. Retention prevents this and is done in two forms, usually combined:
- Fixed lingual — thin wire bonded to the inner side of the front teeth (invisible)
- Removable — transparent tray worn at night
Without retention, treatment results are lost within 1-2 years. With proper retention, the aligned smile lasts long-term.
Orthodontics for children
We recommend the first orthodontic consultation at age 7-8. At this age we can identify and early-correct:
- Jaw growth issues (interceptive)
- Bad habits (thumb sucking, mouth breathing)
- Lack of space for permanent teeth
Appliances used for children: removable appliances, functional appliances, palatal expanders. Early treatment can avoid extractions or subsequent surgical procedures.
Long-term benefits
- Aesthetic — harmonious smile and self-confidence
- Functional — efficient chewing, clear speech
- Oral health — aligned teeth are easier to clean and develop fewer cavities
- TMJ joint — correct occlusion reduces wear and pain
- Prevention — avoids complex prosthetic work in the future
Booking an orthodontic consultation
Bring a recent panoramic X-ray (if you have one) to your first visit — we save a step. If you don’t have one, we’ll take it at the clinic. The consultation also includes duration and cost estimates for each treatment option.
